AWS General Immersion Day 2022 at elements

Take a deep breath and then dive right into Amazon Web Services (AWS) full of enthusiasm: On 11 April 2022, that was the motto of our developers, who were able to devote a whole workday entirely to this relevant topic.

Our team was accompanied through this instructive "deep dive" by Walter Huber, CTO and Managing Director of KaWa commerce GmbH. AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF), AWS Certified SysOps Administrator (SOA) and AWS Certified Solutions Architect (SAA): With his certifications, Walter is a seasoned expert in the field, making him just the right person to expand the know-how of our developers.

The perfect mix: sound theory and numerous hands-on exercises

When it comes to AWS, there is a veritable flood of information and services – one could easily spend several days on the subject. At AWS General Immersion Day 2022, the following topics were on the agenda:

• Introducing the AWS Cloud and its global reach
• Introduction to the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) as one of the primary AWS services, as well as more details about the EC2
• Explanation of Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) as a subarea of AWS
• Presentation of AWS as a storage solution for cloud-based backup and archiving of data
• … and the list goes on and on!

However, the workshop was by no means a one-man show. Again and again, our developers were able to put what they had just learned into practice. The agenda consisted of a colorful blend of theoretical inputs and practical hands-on exercises.

AWS in elements’ daily work

Things got particularly interesting when several possibilities were presented as to how Pimcore and the AWS Cloud can be combined. For instance, it can have various advantages to migrate website data to the AWS Cloud instead of local data centers. 

That’s because multiple websites can then be hosted in the Amazon Elastic Container Service environment. This reduces management complexity and provides benefits regarding reliability, scalability, and security.

AWS Immersion Day 2022: our verdict

Of course, after the workshop, we immediately had to ask how it was:
